A collage of images from yesterday, when I watched the Inauguration with about 700 other people from the town and the campus where I work.

And when the event was coming to end, I could swear I heard people actually singing the National Anthem. I don’t think I have ever heard that here before. Certainly not in the last few years.

I am actually thinking of buying an American flag to hang outside of my house. For the first time ever.

It’s beginning to look like a brand new world. Uh-huh.

this little boy was YANKING on my heartstrings this morning. he got on the train with his mom, these big alligator tears rolling down his face. he didn’t WANT to go to school. after a minute of two of pouting a few feet away from his mom, he ran back and jumped in her lap, just bawling. seeing his mom was holding back tears herself, the passenger to the left in this photo, who had no relation to him, started quietly talking him down. “you’ll have lots of FUN at school. you get to color, and read, and write … ”

sorry the photo’s a little blurry. i felt a little voyeuristic … i’m still uncomfortable taking photos of unsuspecting passersby in the first place. especially when it’s a little boy who’s super upset. that’s something i will probably continue to wrestle with for a little while.
