OMG i have been such a slacker. thank GOD for batman otherwise this site would have been silent indeed.

this photo is from the inside of the powell BART station … if you look at this wall from a 90-degree angle at a little bit of a distance, it just looks like a flat tiled wall. get a little close and you can see the texture. these tiles are also in the MUNI part of the station, and i think in other stations as well. each of the market street subway stations are decorated a little differently … powell has a red stripe down the wall, civic center has a blue stripe, the van ness station has no stripe (i think?), etc. anyway, it’s just another reminder that not everything is at it appears at first glance … and that a slight shift in perspective can change your entire outlook.

today i am off to a video production class at bavc. from what i understand, we’ll be using pro level (or at least prosumer level) equipment and software to make our projects … hello, final cut pro! i’ll be taking along my -real- camera to document the experience. we’ll see if any of those end up here.

marian and vivian brown are a san francisco institution in and of themselves. i had the pleasure to come across them last week while heading home … they were making their way up powell street between sutter and bush, which is one of the steepest hills in the area. and they walk this neighborhood every day. i am in awe.

i almost tripped over this light pole (yes, it was a rough morning) on my way to work today. lucky thing i did, too. otherwise i wouldn’t have seen this piece of urban stencil tagging. i’m a little intrigued by how this was made … how did they do this without any extra splatter from the spraypaint? and, are there more?

oh look, the bus to economic collapse. who wants a ticket?

i watched bush’s address to the nation this morning, then flipped the channel to fox news (not on purpose), where a commentator was blaming the current economic crisis on obama’s background as a community organizer, and the failure of the bailout bill on ACORN. (brief tangent: the inclusion of ACORN in the bill may be contentious, yes … but the bill was defeated because many representatives from both sides of the aisle voted against it. let’s just be clear on that point.) the fear mongering was coming from two angles: as this commentator was describing how ACORN “breaks into offices” in order to pressure banks into making high-risk loans to folks with no credit, and “stalks bank employees” in order to “scare their wives and children”, we are watching large black men doing nothing more than holding clipboards. OMG people holding clipboards! run and hide!

oh and THEN, i found out a certain local rag has endorsed McCain-Palin. can anybody ACTUALLY endorse mccain-palin with a straight face?

meanwhile it is eight years later and i am still in total disbelief that bush actually is the president. omg. seriously.

after several days of sun, heat, and humidity, we’re back to fog, even over in nob hill. a cool and gray start to the week which, given my lack of air conditioning, is just fine.

i could make any one of a number of [really terrible] jokes about this boot occupying a parking space, but the funniest thing, imho, is trying to imagine the sequence of events which could lead to a boot occupying a parking spot – with time left on the meter. (giggle, wtf!) your thoughts?
